Springville City’s original treatment facility was a trickling filter plant. A large industrial user discharges a large, high-strength flow to the City’s facility. Several years ago, a roughing tower was installed to reduce the biological load to the treatment facility. The plant was recently analyzed for both biological and hydraulic capacities. It was determined that additional biological capacity would be required to meet the needs of the growing City. New STM aerotors were installed to add biological capacity to the system. An additional final clarifier was needed to meet the hydraulic needs for the facility. A mass balance was also developed for the solids in the treatment facility.
